here are some things the kids have been working on:

this one is my favorite. this is hudson's creation. i found it in the playroom a while after he'd made it. i brought it downstairs and asked the kids, "whose creation is this?" hudson jumped up, "i did it!" ethan asked hudson what is was. hudson said, "a house!"

here is some of the writing maria does for school. i thought you'd have fun seeing it.

i received this memo the other day. i will translate for you. the top left says, "maria 4" because she is four. next it says, "the gim is klosd" which means "the gym is closed." then she wrote "mom" because it was for me.

these are maria's "bob books". she loves them! they are perfect for her level of reading. there are twelve books for beginning phonics reading.

here is a sample of a "bob book".

here maria is reading. she has had a lot of fun with these books. now, if only i'd stop being such a slacker and teach her more sounds she could read even more.

a close-up of one of maria's drawings. again, i will translate for you. it reads, "maria es woken in the gras." which, translated is, "maria is walking in the grass" and that is her next to the words. hudson is below and it says the same things except for hudson which is the "hson" you see.

here is the whole thing. at the top it says, "hson maria mom dad gramu (grandma)". under that is says "pop sam mat cat too frum (from) maria". notice the period after each word. to the left it says, "mom is not er (here)." and "dad is not er (here). under the pictures of her and hudson is a lot of grass and it even says "gras" in red.
i love all her little pictures and it's fun to see her try to make words with the limited knowledge of reading she has.

Wow, Maria, you are so smart!! Not very many kids can read and write like you can when they are only 4 years old. I can see that you are learning a lot. I love your picture--it is very creative.

Maria, I'm amazed how well you read already! You are also a very good artist. I love your pictures. I can hardly wait till we come visit you when Libbey is blessed. Maybe you could read a book to me this time. I am very happy that you and Hudson are so very good at taking care of Libbey. I bet that your Mom and Dad are glad for your help. Libbey is so cute. Don't you just love your little sister? I love you all and am looking forward to seeing you in March.
Love Pappy
Ok, am I the only one that has noticed that it's Libby, not Libbey? Who spells it with an "e" anyway? Seriously. I've never seen that.
~Kimberly
I always thought it was Libby, but didn't notice anyone was spelling it incorrectly. Maria, you are becoming quite the artist. I love the pictures that are posted. Hudson, that is a very nice house you created. Good work. I am very excited to see everyone in March. Will Libby be smiling by then? Mom
libby is smiling already! i know it's hard to believe, but she was smiling at ethan and i in the hospital! i know, i know, you're thinking she was smiling in her sleep or, as my dad always says, she just has gas, but she really does smile at us! you can tell a difference. she will really be looking at us and she will smile when we talk to her. it's true. she smiles really big open-mouth smiles and i can make out her dimples when she does it!

Dimples!! I am so excited about that. Smiling already, that is amazing. As my father would have said, "she's a wonder".
